Herman Story Wines are made, schlepped, peddled, and drunk with friends by me. The basic web design books tell me that you're probably here for the basics: to find release schedules, ordering information and tasting opportunities for the wines I make, which sounds pretty good to me. The less time I spend writing this stuff the more time I spend in the cellar. So here you go, all the facts with none of the filler. An aesthetic I stand by and believe my wines do too. I release my wines twice a year, in spring and fall. The next release is around October 1, 2009. Below are the wines I currently have available. Earnestly yours, Russell P. From |
CURRENT WINES
2007 "ON THE ROAD" Grenache (FIRST RELEASE) TASTING NOTES: Italian plum, raspberry and chocolate coco powder unfolds a spicy, savory palate of smooth white pepper, toasted caraway, shortbread and freshly baked marzipan. The palate shows spiced and fleshy flavors of ginger bread, bright red currants, orange, violets, and bourbon-soaked desserts. Finishing with "feel it in your gums" tannin, this wine accomplishes balance with the help of a weight/texture not seen in almost any domestic Grenache based wines (read: SILKY BUT POWERFUL!). (DRINK NOW: with 1-2 hour decant; CELLAR: 8+ years)
2007 "NUTS & BOLTS" Syrah TASTING NOTES: This dark and pleasing Syrah opens the same way it finishes: with the scent and silky texture of melted fine milk chocolate. My mom, and I suspect Mr. R. Parker, will be proud. But not all is sweet and choclately in this complex and brooding wine as it opens to show smoky beach barbecue, ripe cherry and beef jerky that yields to a more playful palate of orange rind, elderberry, and beautiful flowers. New French oak integrates into the long finish (60+ seconds) with dark chocolate, espresso and pineapple upside down cake. (DRINK NOW: 2+ hour decant; CELLAR: 10-14 years)
2007 White Hawk Vineyard Syrah TASTING NOTES: Dark and dense yet remarkably supple, this makes its return (White Hawk Syrah was last made in 2005) with the best vintage of White Hawk Syrah I have seen. Elegant aromatics of white flowers, lavender, blackberry, and macerated strawberry interplay with the weighty notes of soy sauce, graphite, Church pew and smoked game. Toasted marshmallow and herbs de Provence grace the palate with hints of roasted coffee and fennel transitioning into delicious oak in the form of true ceylon cinnamon and sweet vanilla crème. (DRINK NOW: 2+ hour decant; CELLAR: 10-14 years)

I don't make much wine, because I'd rather make a little with a lot of care than a lot with little care. So I sometimes have to do allocations because otherwise people become greedy and want to buy me out of everything. Herman Story Wine Club members are lucky, though. They get:
