Larnet Grenache

Vinyard Sources: White Hawk, Watch Hill, Larner, Laetitia
Appellation: Santa Barbara County
Alcohol: 16.1%

Tasting Notes: Starting with sweet tones of rose petals, toasted coconut, macerated strawberries, and cinnamon rolls which transition into more savory depths of cured olive, sausage spice, Hawaiian barbeque and Flank steak. When the wine fully coats your mouth the full expression and complexity of the vintage emerge with ever sweeter flavors of blueberry cobbler, warmed chocolate and root beer. In a wine this concentrated it is a rare thing for the fruit, acid, tannin, and finish (45+ seconds) to be so well integrated and balanced. Drink this wine when get around to it, no later than 10-12 years.

Larner Grenache

Vintage: 2006
Varietal: 100% Grenache
Oak: 40% New French
Vinyard Source: 100% Larner
Appellation: Santa Ynez Valley, Santa Barbara County
Alcohol: 15.9%
Production: 179 Cases
Price: $36

Tasting Notes: This vintage of Larner Grenache introduces itself with an intriguing mix of ripe fig and strawberry julep. These complex and spicy notes eventually become a nose of campfire-roasted marshmallow, gingerbread and freshly grated nutmeg. More spice follows on the palette but this time accompanied by maple syrup, malted milk, cassis and pomegranate concentrate. A crowd pleaser for sure, though this wine seems to have the stuff to go the distance (8+ years).
